Nightguards and Occlussal Guards
A nightguard or an occlussal guard is a thin, acrylic appliance that is custom fitted over your teeth.

All people clench or grind their teeth at night while sleeping. Some even clench or grind during the day while driving, or doing other stressful tasks. This can cause teeth to wear down, chip, break, be sensitive, and if you clench or grind a lot, your teeth can become downright painful!

A nightguard can protect your teeth from all of these issues, and is very comfortable to wear. Some people even wear it during the day when they are conscious they are clenching or grinding their teeth.

We will recommend a nightguard when we see signs of clenching or grinding, or a patient complains of some or all of the symptoms listed above. Choosing not to wear the recommended nightguard, could lead to severe wear and breakdown of teeth. Then, the only way to restore damaged teeth, is to do a full mouth reconstruction.

We, more often than not, will put patients in a nightguard after they have had extensive restorative procedures, to protect the restorations from breaking or chipping.
